A Moment for "Sket Dance"

Hi Everyone,

I've been trying to get better with my review on animes and I feel after I did a review for 'Cowboy Bebop' that I ripped you guys off. Sorry!! I feel I should have done a more thorough review. For me I feel reviews should be concise but not too lengthy like essay style (I have a short attention span, kind of). My review for 'Cowboy Bebop' was short and I could have lengthen it just a little more. Anyways, this entry is about 'Sket Dance' so let me begin.

'Sket Dance' is a high school anime. Three friends (Bossun, Himeko, and Switch) form a club where they help anyone in need of help from students to teachers to even the community. The series was 77 episodes before it was cut due to the lack of viewers. However, "Sket Dance" the manga is still being produced for those readers out there. From my experience with the anime there wasn't a main storyline but there were chibi storylines which helped the audience understand the backgrounds of all the main characters. I really felt this series had potential but then again I'm not a big fan on filler. The main, supporting, and re-occurring characters were a great cast of personalities which help keep the series going. The negative side to all of it was it kind of became repetitive after sometime and then once the series dropped some characters and started adding new characters it took a turn for me. I know change is a good thing but  after adding Agata's (Student Government President) little sister really killed it for me.

The best thing about the series when they covered the background of Bossun, Himeko, and Switch (not in that particular order).  It intertwines with why each character wants to help other people and why they decided to join the club. A lot of the episodes were enjoyable to watch because they were either really touching and thoughtful or really hilarious. Bossun (being the main main character) is a character that can be a role model to anyone. He really makes me think about how much a helping hand can mean to someone no matter how small or big the gesture. His background story was the saddest of all but it really showed what it means to belong no matter who you're with. Himeko, is a very feisty girl who I could relate to and I look up to. She's an oddball and the combination of oddball and feisty is someone I look to. Her background did not go as deep as Bossun's and Switch's but it really showed what it means to go through school, experiencing bullying, and then growing from that experience Then there is Switch, the boy who talks through his computer. He is the most nerdiest of them all from anime to manga to technology.

More than I wish the series continue, I understand the last minute plug on them as well. It is an anime that I hope gets popular again and gets a few more episodes to end the series. The series ended in a middle of a growing plot between characters and I was hoping I would be able to find out what happened in the end. The series doesn't follow the manga precisely and from that when I did try to read the manga I got lost very fast. " Sket Dance" is a great anime to watch but after a certain episode because then you'll reach the end and you'll be wondering how it ends too. I enjoyed watching this anime and it was more enjoyable when you watch it with someone else. . . Well I think watching anything with someone else is almost-always-more enjoyable than watching it by yourself.

Overall grade for "Sket Dance": B-

That is a pretty "low" score but I'm considering how it was unfinished (and I forgot to add without reason and there was no warning prior to it as well), the influx of new characters, and how it planned to have many fillers before getting back on the main storyline.

My next review will be on "Angel Beats" which I am re-watching. I can already tell you, I L-O-V-E this series and re-watching so I can give you a thorough review and it has been a while so I don't remember the details to some episodes. I hope this review was better than my last one and with every review I get better with it overtime. Until next time, sayonara!!
