Anaba Sushi: Review

Hey Everyone!!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I know I did. I completely stuffed my face this weekend and I have no regrets what-so-ever. . . okay I have little regrets. Hey a girl can splurge every now and then. This girl splurged on some sushi and boy was it worth it. I haven't had sushi since the beginning of last month and it was at Sumo Sushi in Camarillo. I thought Sumo Sushi was a pretty decent place until I went to Anaba Sushi.

I discovered Anaba when I went to hang out with a good friend of mine in college and we were walking around the area. It's a small center located next to a Vons between (Victoria and Wooley) Man is the area beautiful, especially during sunset. Well we decided to have sushi but at the time we went Anaba was crowded and we went to a shady sushi place near Channel Islands Harbor. I missed experiencing Anaba but it was okay because I was able to experience it the first time with someone else who has never been to Anaba.

We went around 1pm on Saturday and a lot of people were not there which I thought was great and we were seated by the window. We had a great view of the harbor and seeing people enjoy the great weather.
The scene from our table, if only they had outdoor seating

The inside is small so if you're planning to come during rush expect a 30-45 minute wait.

The inside, this is how big it is. I was able to capture 98%. There was a couple of tables not shown in the picture

There was a few staff and they were attentive when it came to our orders but when it came to filling our drinks, it was good. We had to call them down twice to re-fill. It's excusable if the place was packed but as you see with the lack of patrons, there was no way you can miss our table with empty glasses. I thought they didn't come quite frequently because they didn't want to disturb us but I will have to go back to see if it's what they do.

Iced green tea and water

For drinks we ordered a coke and I an iced green tea. As you can see, it didn't look like a green tea I was expecting; it's matcha green tea. Still refreshing but I overdid it with the equal sugar. It tastes wonderful lightly sweetened. For what we ordered, we ordered three special rolls.

Clockwise starting from the top: Dinosaur Roll, Popcorn Lobster Roll, and Rock N' Roll

Dinosaur Roll: Shrimp tempura, crab meat, and cucumber inside. Toped with broiled eel, avocado, and eel sauce ($10.95)

Popcorn Lobster Roll: Crab meat, avocado, and cucumber inside and wrapped with soy paper. Topped with friend popcorn lobster, then drizzled with spicy mayo ($11.50)

Rock N' Roll: Salmon, shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, and sweet radish inside. Lightly fried then served with sprinkle masago, spicy mayo, and eel sauce ($10.50)

These rolls were superb and it was filling. The filling was perfect, the right amount of rice to fish.
Love how they don't cheap you out of your sushi ^__^

Every piece was wonderful to eat and it made up. As you see from what I stated, the rice wasn't overpowering the inside of the sushi. I have been to a couple of places who's ratio of rice to meat was 2 to 1. My favorite roll between all was the Popcorn Lobster roll. Even though the roll was a California roll, the soy paper complete was an unexpectedly refreshing. The Rock N' Roll was a real filler and the eel in the Dinosaur roll was delicious! The eel wasn't rubbery or burnt. We were planning to order more rolls but sadly it did not happen. We savored every single bite of sushi we had. At the end our sushi cravings were well satisfied as well as our wallets.

The total of our meal came out to be $41.47 (this was 3 rolls and 2 drinks). This did not include complimentary miso soup or edamame. It was still well-worth the money and I am overjoyed with my whole experience with Anaba. Even though Anaba is quite a drive from Camarillo, it is worth going to for the special occasion or for satisfying your sushi addiction.

If you or someone you know (who's visiting the area) want to go to a place with a great atmosphere and awesome sushi, Anaba is the place to go to. To all those of you living in Oxnard, I envy you so much but then again if I lived near Anaba I wouldn't have any money left in my bank account >____<.
