So everyone has some sort of bucket list correct? There are those who actually have a physical list and then those who have it up in their mind. I'm the one who has it on my mind but it needs a trigger to activate it.
While I was excited about the Mandarin I went to see what restaurants they have and low and behold they had afternoon tea. From there I thought what other places have afternoon tea and after looking around, the Petrossian Bar was the chosen place.
You should have seen my face as we were walking towards the Petrossian Bar. Seriously giddy as a school girl about to mingle with her long time crush. There is one thing you need to do before you go and that is make a reservation. I made my reservation about 2-3 weeks ahead. When we got there, we did not have to wait at all. We were lead to a table at the back and Anthony was hoping we would be seated next to the piano.
Completely forgot to mention, the Petrossian Bar is located at the edge of the casino. I thought since it's located by the casino and our table had an overlook of the casino; I was 50% right. It was mostly quiet and I really like it since it wasn't ruining my first afternoon tea experience. We were given a menu and we could choose 4 sandwiches from a list of maybe 16-20, I really can't recall. Then each of us could order the kind of tea. I ordered English Breakfast and Anthony ordered a vanilla one.
Our server was Ann and she was on top of everything. There was another server, I never got his name but he's a plump character with a mustache. He was awesome as well. We got our teas first; so there we were sipping our teas.
Our food arrived and I thought they would be petite. I guess petite to them is nothing compared to my definition. I tried the sandwiches first and boy was that a disappointment. You can tell from the first bite how those sandwiches were not made to order. From my first bite the first thing that came to mind was "This must have been taken out of a box they pre-ordered before we came here. . . yes." One of the sandwiches tasted as though it was sitting in the fridge. I know sandwiches are meant to be cold but it was the bread that gave it away. In the end it didn't matter so much because some of the sandwiches were good. Noticed I didn't say 'great'"?
Then I tried the petite fours and being the sweet tooth that I am, I enjoyed most of them. I say most because there was one petite where I did not expect figs/dates in them. It was a nice surprise but tasted a little off my comfort zone. There was a fruit tart which was the bomb!! The petite fours were made on premises and those I could tell were made fresh.
THE best part was the freshly-out-of-the-oven-hard-on-the-outside-soft-and-fluffy-on-the-inside scones. I'm not much of a fan for cranberry; these scones completely converted me to a cranberry lover. Oh how I loved eating these with the devonshire cream and the butter and the tea and MMMmmMMM. I wish I had eaten those first. All of the food was a great meal in itself, nothing light about afternoon tea.
Ann and Mr. Mustache were really on top of everything. They filled my water every time it was half way, they brought us everything we needed, they refilled our tea pots (which was a great plus!!), and they checked up on us several times which I really appreciated even though I know some people rather be left alone to enjoy their tea in tranquility. . . by the slot machines.
The slots machines weren't really a problem for us, however there was wedding party having an photo op near us. It was okay until the groomsmen were standing right behind me. Really? They were chatting away and I understand it's a special day. I really wished they understood personal space, especially for patrons who were trying to enjoy their tea. . .maybe that's why Ann was very attentive to our needs.
For the price of everything it came out to be a little under $80 ($35 per person plus tax). For what it's worth, it's worth it comparing to other high tea places. When I come back to Vegas I wouldn't mind coming back here if my options are limited and if you want to experience your first afternoon tea in Vegas keep this place in mind.
