Coming down with a minor cold I had scrambled eggs and an English muffin. Oh how I wish I had a heartier meal and a waffle maker. I love waffles. . . I love pancakes. I want to say both are my number one breakfast item but waffles beat out pancakes by a smidge.
I rarely have waffles but when I do it has to be Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles waffles. The very first time I had it, I decided right then and there that if I was to have an addiction, it would be with those waffles. There was something about those waffles that made me daydream about eating those waffles.
Before we headed for Las Vegas we went to Roscoe's to have an amazing breakfast to start our amazing mini vacation. We got there as they opened (a little after 8am) and we were immediately seated. The Pasadena location reminds me of the old Taco Bell structure with the white painted brick walls and the adobe structure. . . yeah I don't know how to describe it. But I found a picture!
We were greeted and seated right away and our server must have not been a morning person. It was 8am on a Friday and I would understand but man attitude is freakin' contagious (almost). We ordered and soon enough we got our dishes right away. We didn't wait long and I guess they were already made and put together as people ordered. It was speedy and that was great. The waffles weren't ask crisp and I don't remember if they were usually crispy or not but it was more like a molded pancake than a waffle. Still, it was delicious and if I had two stomachs I would have been able to eat it all.
The chicken usually doesn't let me down but this time it did a little. It was dry and I needed ketchup. When I whip out the ketchup it's because it's either dry and I need to moisten it or there's a lack of flavor or strong flavor. I didn't even eat all my chicken and if I had left over (because I decided to push my self to finish what I started) I would have not packed it; if it wasn't good when it was hot, I don't think it would have been good later on.
Our server visited us about a couple of times, once to see if we wanted anything else and then if we were ready for the check. I had to ask her to refill my glass of water and I know this can vary with people but I shouldn't need to ask to refill my glass when it's empty, and I waited to see if she noticed. As she came back with the check it didn't dawn on me that she didn't ask if we needed containers to go. It dawned on me when I was sitting there and I wanted to leave before I hit rush hour traffic. I waited for a minute and then I ended up asking one of the cooks to get her for me. As she came I asked if I could get a to-go container, she gave one to us, we packed, we paid, and we left.
I really enjoy going to Roscoe's but this time was not the same. I don't know if I mentioned this with my other reviews; when I make my reviews it's due to my experience right then and there. I know I'm starting to a little picky with my customer service but I really can't make excuses for every single person in customer service. There are those who are awesome and then there are those who suck.
That said, not-so-sad-and-not-so-happy with the customer service and the same with the food. I really like the feel of the place and for around $21, it was a meal to kick off an amazing weekend.
I'm still going to Roscoe's again, I just rather go at a time when it's rush. Sorry for this time Roscoe's there's always the next.
