As you can see from my posts I have breakfast a lot. I love all the meal times but breakfast/brunch is my favorite. One of my best friends (Dennise) came down a week and we usually hit up the local favorites and places she doesn't get at in Washington. This time I decided to take her to a new place other than our usually eating spots (which I will cover later).
The Waypoint Cafe is a cafe at the Camarillo Airport. As I was driving towards it, there is not obvious indication (i.e. a big sign). Dennise pointed it out and from the outside it looks like a building with umbrellas and chairs. There was limited parking space since the parking lot is shared between the building; there were neighboring buildings. If you're coming during rush, there will be limited parking spaces. . . in the lot but plenty of space on the street or even across the way.
When I read about Waypoint a lot of reviewers said how they could see the planes take off and come in. I didn't know it meant having the cafe 100 feet away from the runway; how surprising!! We sat on the patio and it concurred to me how close we were to all the planes. The inside was a little dark and since it was a bright and lovely Thursday morning, I could not pass sitting in the patio up.
They were serving breakfast and lunch so I was able to order a milkshake and both of us ordered a french toast combo (french toast, 3 slices of bacon, and two eggs anyway you want). As we waited we enjoyed watching the planes and helicopters move around the airport and the people coming in to enjoy a nice breakfast as well. The patio was furnished nicely and the only problem I had was that some tables were to close to one another. The table behind me was so close, I was touching chairs with the person behind me.
As for the servers and service, we had a handful but one main waitress. She was very prompt with everything and checked on us a couple of times. In a way I felt she was hurried since it looked like there wasn't much staff.
When our food came I was really excited, and then I tasted the french toast. It was delicious with the syrup and melted butter, but as alone, there lacked some strong flavors. The bread was perfect to use; oh how I wish I could find bread to make french toast at home. My expectations were of a distinct cinnamon taste or vanilla flavor. The bacon and eggs were cooked how I like them (but nothing to really capture my taste buds) and as for the shake it was how I wish all shakes were (not to frozen where you're sucking the straw dry) and not to liquidy (where it's converted back to milk). A shake for $5, it wasn't a bad deal. As for meal it was $8.50/$8.75 for the french toast combo.
It was a great meal to start the day and this place really beats other places out here in Camarillo, when it comes to breakfast. I want to say this is in my top three. I want to try a few more places before I set my top three for good. Camarillo seems to be the breakfast city in the 8o5, and I know for those who drink and get hangovers, give this place a try if you're down for breakfast or lunch and don't want to go to Denny's again. =P
