Min's Kitchen

Early to bed, early to rise unless you're like me and don't go to bed till midnight and wake up at 7am in the morning. It's 7 hours of sleep, so it's not that bad. Thank goodness I wasn't tossing and turning; it took me a while to get use to sleeping in hotels.

When  I went to visit NorCal for the weekend I stayed at the Hilton in Concord. Concord is a nice city with a water park, and I haven't really explored it thoroughly. One day it will happen but for now I am sharing one of the mom and pop breakfast places there is to offer, Min's Kitchen.

Min's Kitchen (MK) has been open for a few years and the first time I went there I tried their freshly squeezed orange juice and I vowed to come back. About over a year later Anthony took me back to Min's Kitchen to see how I would review it the second time around.

MK is located in the corner of  a small shopping center right next door to a sushi place. Parking is not a hassle when you're not going during rush hour, so for us, we made it in before rush started. It's a casual place and since rush did not start we sat ourselves and was greeted by our server. She was very prompt with a smile.

I ordered the Clayton's Special (my combination was french toast, bacon, and over-easy eggs) and the freshly squeezed orange juice, Anthony ordered pancakes, and we decided to try the hashbrowns.

We didn't wait long and we were starving!! The orange juice wasn't as good but it was way better than the boxed kind. As for the food, it was food that you probably can get at every mom and pop joint. It was big portions with mediocre flavor. . . Not the hashbrowns. I docked a point because the hashbrowns looked great on top but burnt on the bottom.  Well if you look closely at the hashbrowns, the dark parts are the burnt parts. Even ketchup didn't make it better. The french toast was plain without the syrup. . .everything was a-okay, as well as the service.

Our server was on top of it until our food got to the table. When my water was gone (and she glanced toward our table) she still didn't fill up my glass and had to take a little from Anthony. When we received our bill (which was a shy over $20) we were instructed to go up to the register to pay. It was a nice beginning to a wonderful day. Since this was my second time visiting and after this visit, I don't know if I'll be coming back again, unless it's the best place between all the breakfast places in Concord.

For those who are planning to go to Waterworld or visiting Concord, not much of a food snob like me and want a hearty meal, this place will fit the bill.  Beware, it's not a modern place so expect a lot of an older crowd.  Happy eating!! ^___^
