Living in Ventura County is nothing like living in Los Angeles county since there isn't much night life or entertainment and since it's fairly small by the time you reach the ripe age of 18 you think you've done it all. For me I thought I've seen everything I wanted to until I started this blog and since then I started to take into account all of these places I never tried. One of these places is Old New York Bagel & Deli Company (ONY). ONY is located on the the east side of Camarillo and where Camarillo High School is located. Cam H.S. was my rival school and I rarely step foot on foe territory. However, in the the case I did, I did my business there fairly fast and left. In this case, I had training and forgot a lunch. Decided to try this place out.
ONY is located in a shopping center across from the Roxy movie theater. Neighboring food places are Subway and this one sushi place. . . forgot the name. The place if fairly big and I was really impressed with their bakery. My assumption on their bakery was it was a small and quaint section but NOOOoooo. . . the place has 'bagel' in their name and it was as though Noah's (Bagel) fit snugly between the bakery and deli. This place is a self-serve place where you order your food and bus your own table. The staff was nice but I had minimum interaction. Put my order to go and once I opened up to see it's contents I was pleased with the contents.
As I took a bite of my sandwich I started to think that I might have over-hyped myself over this place. The food looks good but it tastes bland and that's what I thought of with my sandwich at least. As for my fruit tart, it was equally disappointing. There was a very subtle lemon flavor in the custard and the fruit was the only thing I was able to taste. No flavor on the crust, non-existent flavor in the custard. I really tried to taste my meal with every bite but in the end I was not satisfied overall. For $15, it was not worth my money. It's a nice experience to have meeting up with someone but if you want something more flavorful in the area I recommend another place.
ONY, is a place that focuses more on presentation than the product itself. I'll probably go back to try something else, but it will be quite a while before that happens.
