One of the major reasons why I wanted to start this blog is because when I travel I have to try a bit of everything and share it with friends, family, and people like me who are trying to figure out what to try or get more information about something. I might not highlight everything I tried (and that's why I do reviews) but I do try to share my experience one way or another.
Everett and Jones Barbeque is THE best bbq I ever had around EVER (for now until I expand my travels to the South and Texas). This particular time when we went to Everett, it was the best they ever had them. Down in the Tri-County we do have Wood Ranch but Wood Ranch isn't that special. As for Everett, it's more like sitting down, having a good laugh, and indulge in comfort food.
When you first walk in you feel at home or going to a friend's barbeque party. There is no consistency in furniture there and it feels welcoming. Our server was this older lady name Gale. From all the times we have been there Gale has been the best server we had hands down! There was one experience where it was really great and then the other hmm 2-4 times they were 'Meh' or awful. I don't hold those negative experiences with me unless I got the same server that gave me that experience. Thankfully we didn't and Gale treated us like we were her kids calling us 'honey' and 'sweetie.' I really like being called those endearments and she was on top of everything for us.
We ordered the slab of ribs which comes with your choice of bread or cornbread (we got 3 cornbread muffins), three sides (we ordered macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, and potato salad), and then our drinks (a soda and a pint of Saucey Sistah Ale). We ordered more food to go (we knew we were going to have leftover ribs) so we got two more cornbread muffins and a slice of sock-it-to me cake; which all cost around $52-$55.
I took a bite of the cornbread first because I have been thinking about it for ages. The last time I had Everett and Jones was probably a year ago or so; oh how I missed the cornbread. The ribs were cooked to perfection and sauced just nicely, sitting there in its juices. *drool* When you took a bite, the meat falls a part and then you have to either vacuum it up before it hits your plate or you hold it with your other hand. It was messy eating, I didn't care, and it was allllll goooood. ^O^
Everything was as good as it can get except for the beer. It was aiight and I say that because it wasn't as smooth as I would expect it to be; there was a bite and it really didn't go well with the ribs at the end; thinking it would compliment the meal. I got a stomach ache right after because I was being greedy and had to stuff my face like no tomorrow, but as I was sitting in Jack London Square on a bench hunched over my hunger and craving for Everett and Jones was satisfied. I couldn't wait to eat the leftovers
I ate the cake in the car, this was a couple of hours after; we watched "The Lego Movie" and as I opened the bag with the cake; I thought "How can Gale recommend me this, it looks dry." Oh boy how I was eating my words once I took a bite of that perfectly moist, perfectly sweetened, perfectly textured cake.*drool*drool* I kicked myself for not buying a second one. From my experience with sock-it-to-me cakes, there's a lot of topping and/or frosting but this one had a little and really it can be amazing without the frosting.
Everett and Jones does not disappoint me. . . food wise and maybe service wise but yeah it's the luck of the draw. If you're up here living or visiting: San Jose, Sacramento, The Bay, whatever as long as you're 100 or less miles away from Oakland go try the barbeque at Everett and Jones. . . then get me some ribs while you're there ^^
