Susy's Bakery and Deli

This is what you see while driving by, parking and "front" of the
place is in the back
Where do I begin? Living near Oxnard I had my fair share of Mexican pastries and after trying a couple of shops I knew Mexican pastries were not the type of relationship I want to continue. These kind of pastries were 80% bland and every now and then I would come across one which fell into the 20% of uber delicious category of Mexican pastries.

Vowing, unconsciously, to stay away from Mexican bakeries I was doing laundry at my nearest laundry mat and I was hella hungry. I was thinking about all my errands I had to do throughout the day, and I was walking to my car it became a deciding factor, do not have the time nor the DINERO, nah! Not going to try. I started putting my stuff in the back seat then it dawned on me. . . WAIT! I'm a Foodie!!! Food is my hobby! Being a Foodie means trying different types of food, sharing experiences, being full and happy or empty and disappointed (every now and then you run into that as well); money should not be a factor.

I marched my way to Susy's and was greeted with "Buenos dias!" Looking around it was very kept, clean but worn out. Susy's was located right behind an El Salvadorean restaurant; anyone could have missed it from the street.  I had to muster all the Spanish I know and told the girl I did not speak a lot of Spanish. She spoke English and was super friendly; helped me out with their pastries. I don't know what I got, all I knew it was filled and I was sold. I got three and it came out to $1.50. SAY WHAT?!? Hell yeah for a cheap breakfast! It couldn't have gotten any better, it did!

I sat in my car, I took a bite and my world of Mexican pastries transformed. There was texture, it was moist, it crumbled a little, and the best part was it was FLAVORFUL. How did I keep passing this place up? Never mind that, I am semi-forever changed. Still a little hesitant to try more Mexican bakeries, more certain about trying more hole-in-the-wall places. Thank you Susy's for breaking, my view, cliche of Mexican pasteries. Te has ganado mi corazón!
