Koko Chicken & BBQ

Oh my goodness! I have not made a new entry in over a month! So sorry!! I guess too much was happening, still no excuse. I'm back and I can say I did an amazing food tour when I was down in SoCal. There was so much I want to eat. When I came down I was determined to get my breakfast burrito fix. Then as I made a spontaneous trip to the OC I had to get other cravings fulfilled.

One of those was getting delicious friend chicken from Koko's. Koko's is located across from a small airport in a small shopping center, in a small shop. There wasn't many people because it was the middle of the week and it was around 1:30pm. My siblings and I came here after heading to Porto's down the way. Effing A! That was scrumptious. The menu was neatly written in chalk with the wait time on it (big plus). We quickly ordered short after sitting down: cheese corn, daikon, and 24 soy chicken wings.

There wasn't a wait when the daikon, the house salad (I.E. shredded cabbage with thousand island dressing), and the cheese corn. After trying Porno Bar's cheese corn my expectation was any place who served cheese corn shared the same recipe. Koko's cheese corn tasted like a chef who was cutting corners. The corn tasted as though it came from a can, and the cheese was straight-up mozzarella, nothing with mozzarella. There was no flavor other than the mozzarella; come on!! Throw in some spice, kimchi juice, or something. For something so bland I was hoping the cost of the dish was around $7; it was $10. When I saw the cost on the receipt I swear I was going to flip the table. How did I refrain from doing such a thing you ask? The soy wings.

Holy shit!!! Yes, it is worth cussing over and I think I was squealing. When I have wings it needs to be fried and when I mean fried I mean crunchy as potato chips. The inside was tender and the sauce was the perfect balance of salt with some sweetness. With their powers combined it became the ultimate Korean fried chicken!!! Place's like Koko's are reasons why I love Orange County and surrounding areas. It is a foodie's paradise which I hope one day Northern California can replicate.

The price tag on all this foodgasm; $40. Which was semi-worth it and I say 'semi-worth it' because the cheese corn was not worth it. The service was on point, nothing extraordinary so a little more than average. I'm glad my brother loved me enough to bring me here, and I am super happy to check this place off of my list of Orange County and Surrounding Areas of places to try. If you're getting tired of the Colonel's secret recipe and you find yourself in Buena Park check out Koko's to get your Korean chicken on! ^___^
