The smoke from the Korean BBQ sticks still linger on my clothing and the vision of the 626 crowd right at sunset is still ingrained in my memory. My brother warned me about the crowd and told me to wait it out for the night but hunger prevails.
Boy did the crowd come all of a sudden. After getting takoyaki the crowd came in droves. Oh my gosh it became intimate, brushing up against people, people brushing up against me. Christie and I were trying to save dessert for last, however after seeing the Uniqcone stand I had to try it. . . maybe it was the dirty side of me.

This booth was also the talk of the town because of it's unique cone shape; others can say it's a little suggestive, probably not as suggestive as what they were selling at the squid booths. For $5 you get this vanilla-ice-cream-filled cone. To be honest I did not see the hype over this J-shaped cone, then I took a bite of the ice cream. Forget the cone!!! I wish I had a gallon of the ice cream. It wasn't the same as your typical soft-served-vanilla ice cream, it was much sweeter. . . packed more with vanilla maybe? Not pungent sweet, the happy medium. . . the really happy medium. The cone's texture was like a light chicharron. If you don't know what chicharron you my friend are missing out.

Chicharron, I really don't know the origin because it's well known in the Phillipines and it's well known in the Hispanic community. Chicharron is deep fried pig skin and in some cases chicken skin. Vinegar usually accompanies chicharron and for this corn chicharron the ice cream really compensates for the lack of taste from the corn cone. Great idea, great pricing, but because the cone is light and hard to support the ice cream the taste of it is bland. Next time I would solely get the ice cream.

The Bonks Lab
I have to say there were plenty of drink stands around, one of the most popular ones was Main Squeeze which came with a rave-light-ball in the drink. One which my friend was dying to try was the drink in a pouch. After looking around we found the Bonks Lab which I then noticed right away was a Filipino-fusion drinks. Their Sago was already sold out, bummer, we did try the buko pandan. Buko in Tagalog means coconut and pandan. . . well I'm going to make an educated guess, is jelly.
For $7 I get a drink in a pouch which you hold up with a string and drink it with a straw. Another unique vendor and a great way to stand out. The drink was super refreshing and it was sweet, it was made for one person. . . we totally shared one and we were equally disappointed when we reached the bottom real quickly, way too quickly.
The booth itself was pretty cool looking, matched with the name. For $7 it's worth it as an individual, when you're splitting/share it becomes a big tease.

I can't believe at this point we've been at 626 for a couple of hours and we were still going strong with the food. Yes we slowed down a bit but still we've been snacking and I had something to eat prior (NOTE: have to write a review for Kopan). Of course as the night progressed the wait time became ridiculous. There was one truck, Okamoto Kitchenm where there were about 5 people ahead of me and it felt like forever for orders to be taken. I was in line for 10 minutes and one of the cashiers had to step out to find another customer, how inconvenient. That was another 5 minutes and the line did not move. . . for 5 people. I understand there will be waits in the line but for a food truck which looked heavily staffed it was not worth waiting in line for a four dollar item.
Other than that minor set-back, the 626 Night Market was animated and this wave of euphoria poured into me. There was a ton of people and I thought claustrophobia would start kicking in, it didn't. As a food lover and as my first time visiting this place with the people I was with I have never felt so happy, in a while. It was one delicious bite after another. Now as my feet started to hurt and the night coming to an end there was one last push to try a couple more things. That will be me second to last entry! Please stay tuned. ^______^
