Chelo

Completely pumped with caffeine so I will try to make this short, simple, and sweet unless this coffee really kicks in and I go into overdrive. Thank goodness I don't get on tangents easily. . . you ever wonder how dinosaurs would look riding a bicycle? Just kidding. . . ^___^

When I first heard about this place I decide to go somewhere I've been to instead of trying a new place, what a newbie mistake that was and for months  I dwelled on the decision because I rarely go to SoCal. This time I was not going to miss my chance. Straight after I had lunch I went straight here to Chelo.

Chelo is located at a fairly small shopping center which gets packed if you don't get there early, however there is underground parking which is a nice incentive compared to how pack the place can get. Chelo is not too hard to miss. . . well maybe when you're looking for it and the sign is so nice, need, and inviting.

I get there was greeted immediately and the guy was super friendly. There was a group of 6 ahead of me who already paid for their Chelo Rolls. I almost got ice cream after trying their earl gray lavender, it was the most delicious tea I ever tasted in ice cream form. Sorry green tea there is a new tea in town. Anywhoo ordered goodzooky which is green tea ice cream with red beans mixed in, then topped with red beans, mochi, whipped cream, and a touch of green tea pocky ($6.50 + tax).

So I'm waiting there and I noticed only one person manning the fried-frozen-yogurt machine when there was a second machine. Next thing I know I'm waiting there for nearly 30 minutes and I round it to that number because the guy at the register was telling a huge group of people (who herded in all of a sudden) the wait time and seriously I knew it was longer than what was said. I felt sorry for the guy who had to churn roll after roll and thank goodness someone else stepped in who also explained the other machine was down.

With the long wait the small space of Chelo was getting too crowded. It was awkward trying to find a spot to stand while not encroaching on someone's table or sitting area or personal area. After I did get my goodzooky and I had a bite of it, it didn't taste as magical as I was expecting. It tasted like green tea ice cream with frozen red beans right in there, it was satisfying in flavor and texture. Eating through half of it I was done and really waiting for this for half an hour is not really worth it. You basically go to say you've tried it. Not saying I will not go back to Chelo, glad they have other frozen dessert options. I have my eyes on that earl gray ice cream, so it is not goodbye just more Chelos. . . totally had to do that. =P
