There were so many sweets!! So many sweets at first you feel as though you're a kid at the candy store or the kid who didn't know the consequences of cavities and how sugar metabolizes in the body and turns into hyper activity. The first 30 minutes of having my cake and cookies and brownies and such and eating it too was sugar bliss. . . after the 40/45 minute mark I was ready to crash. Could not handle the sugar overload and was about to give up until I started seeing other booths offering a little less sweet treat.
The Velvet Rope Bake Shop - Sweets and cookies have always came across as sweet, and lately sweet AND salty. Velvet Rope Bake Shop has brought the average cookie to a new dimension, with hot peppers. I was very curious to try their cookies out after finding out one of the cookies is called 'Habanero Peanut Butter and Jelly cookie'. I kid you not!! Sounds so freakin delicious and it was a treat. At first you're chewing a cookie, that's what you're initially processing, then you start getting a warm tingling sensation while consuming the sweetness, and after the warmness lingers after you're done chewing. There is also a ghost cookie which was out of my league, a shortbread, a salted caramel apple oatmeal, and rocky road. The salted caramel apple oatmeal cookie tasted as if a caramel apple was diced up and mixed up with some oats. As stated salty is not something I venture into much often, however these cookies can convince me to stay.
Infinity Sauce - This was actually the first non-sweet booth I ran into where the owner, John, show his enthusiasm for hot sauce. He gave me and my friend a hot sauce tasting and with each hot sauce he mentioned the layers of flavor of each sauce and then mentioned for some of them what foods would go great with it. He was knowledgable about the history of hot sauces and the chiles used.
Banzai Jerky - I consider my step-dad my as the stereotypical prime example of an American. He hunts, fishes, drinks Bud Light, and grills steaks or a form of beef every night. It's custom of me when I go visit a place I bring a souvenir back home. Scanning the whole convention I saw Banzai Jerky. "How cowboy. . . OH!" Banzai is more known for their bacon jerky, a concept I never thought could exist but with bacon hype it should have. I bought some to try at home; that was quite an experience. Banzai jerky was more moist compared to the average beef jerky, I think trying to preserve some of the bacon fat. It was really salty
Farmer John - Everyone should know about Farmer John and if you don't know this company you better CHECK YO SELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YO SELF!!! I rarely venture into the field of salty and sweet and when I do I am very cautious. Farmer John is known for their meat (I.E. sausage and bacon) and they blessed us with their presence with their meat and sweet combination. I tried their bacon blondie brownie which tasted as though the butter was infused with bacon fat. . . so therefore it's a blondie bracon (brownie + bacon) or a bacownie. . . . like 'bracon' more. Elevated sweetness, elevated bacon-ness equals a Farmer John baked goodie.
