L.A. Cookie Con Part 3: . . . And Everything Nice

I'm grateful to be given the opportunity to cover such an extravagant event which has gain popularity over the year 10 fold.  I am thankful for LA Cookie Con for giving me the opportunity to cover their event. With given the opportunity I was able to gain the VIP benefits. The VIP experience was open to the public to purchase which was great because there were more treats in the designated VIP areas.

Quenelle - How can L.A. Cookie Con and Sweets Show call it that without some ice cream!! Tried the Dirty Chai and the Chocolate malt with Christie. . . oh my goodness!! This ice creamy . . . haha I meant to type 'cream', yeah it was hella creamy. The chocolate malt was decadent and the chai made me feel all guilty, trying to hide it from others. This was great to have as a snack break, too bad they weren't selling any because I would have bought a pint and I regret not trying to get seconds =/

World Empanadas - Empanadas are mini calzones but much better because it's pocket size, full of flavor, and multiple cultures has their own rendition of the beloved empanada. World Empanada was very popular because it was one of the only real foods within the convention; one would have to step of the convention walls to get a bite to eat to balance out the third serving dessert one engulfed. They guys at World Empanadas (WE) were working hard to get everyone a couple of empanadas and to move everyone along. They were not selling anything, however I did found out they did catering. I tried their spinach and cheese and spicy chicken empanadas. The spinach and cheese was my favorite, the chicken was the opposite. WE did a great job nonetheless and I hope *hint*hint* they come back next year; maybe with a food truck yeah?

Creme Caramel LA - Located in Topanga, the owner and her husband ventured out into the heart of L.A. to serve their versions of classic - Filipino desserts. They were all served in a form of pudding/mousse. There was pandan, dragon passionfruit, and ube. Sometimes the samples are not enough and lucky us (Christie and I) they were kind enough to let us try a little more. These were great to try and I wish I stayed in SoCal a little bit longer.

Bakeology - I did a double take while passing this booth. At first I thought it was a booth on sellnig baking supplies and then I realized they had bite-size cookies!!  They were very simplistic in their set-up as well as their cookies (which were gluten-free by the way). The girls were very passionate about their simplistic approach to gluten-free cookies. Gluten-free (GF) can be tricky,  not for them. I tried all they had to offer and I would never have thought these cookies where GF.

Papillon Bakery - This stand was one of the most popular booths in the VIP areas because every time I went by to see if they have samples they were out. . . also they were a little slow in getting their samples out because I guess they made it fresh. Papillon specializes in a Polish dessert, ponchik (deep fried dough with filling, these were filled with nutella)

Otis Spunkmeyer - THE sponsor of L.A. Cookie Con, huge sweets company giving out sweets like Oprah giving out gifts to her audience, minus the time she gave out cars. I tried out some of their treats and have to say the one which stood out the most was the lemon cake/bar/sample. By the time I was trying Otis this was the second round of binging on sweets and it was at the tail end meaning everything I ate with sugar my body couldn't handle and needed something more nutritious. Still, THANK YOU OTIS SPUNKMEYER!!

Being VIP was a treat itself, however there were cons too like a line for the massage and how it was really crowded in one VIP area. It was great they had a couple of areas to divide the VIPers. VIP also was open to the public to purchase so being in press or a celebrity was the same as common folk. It's great but a big suggestion for those working in press release is to give them early access to get more personal time with bakers because it became busy. I definitely cannot wait to see L.A. Cookie Con transform, especially since it's gaining quickly in popularity. My next to last entry will be on other booths I either forgot I visited or didn't fit into any of the entrees, The Sweet Escape. Until then keep it classy and happy eatings!! ^___^
